Ben Payne at the Australian Masters
Recently I
was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work at The
Victoria Golf Club in preparation for the Australian Masters. Ten days out from
the tournament I joined Ian Todd (Superintendent), New Zealander Tay Wilson
(2IC) and the 25 staff crew. For the days leading up to the tournament my role
was to cut greens in the morning, then later in the day jobs such as bunker
maintenance, track work, divoting of tees and fairways etc.
Once the Tournament
began I cut greens in the morning and when play ended in the evening I divoted
tees with fellow Kiwi Blake Lindsay (Millbrook, Queenstown). This was a great
experience being able to see what goes behind the scenes to host a major golf
tournament and will be beneficial to me when Metropolitan Golf Club host the
Masters in 2014.
